FINAL REFLECTION

I really enjoyed this course over this semester, for which it had helped me understand the values over privacy and safety on the internet. My professor was kind enough to teach us everything on how to create your own blog, how to expand new horizons over the web, and many more. One of the things I enjoyed most was the last assignment on coding. It really taught me some of the ways on how your mind works in analyzing on the objects movements in the programs. Overall, my classmates in particular were really kind to help out with some of the assignments we had pending and remind us to do them over the week before we forget. I’ll cherish this moments I had in this class, for I will miss it entirely. There really isn’t anything to change in this course, for which the professor did an excellent job in explaining the work. I wanted to thank my professor to give me this opportunity to allow myself to understand these things on group projects and many other things. I personally enjoyed this class and hopefully sometime in the future I can attend this course again.

¿Qué es la realidad virtual y aumentada?

En primer lugar, la Realidad Virtual consiste en tener información idealmente de la vida real, ya sea creando un entorno educativo o componiendo el diseño de un videojuego. Esto genera aspectos de la vida real, pero principalmente reemplaza todo lo del mundo real. Esta tecnología ha sido popular en los principales medios de comunicación, especialmente en la comunidad de juegos, donde el usuario tiene la capacidad de interactuar con objetos digitales y su inmersión completa.

Sin embargo, la Realidad Aumentada es diferente a las demás, ya que solo proyecta una imagen con personajes u objetos ficticios que puedes controlar fácilmente en un espacio físico (como teléfono, tableta, etc.). Por ejemplo, piense en el infame juego “Pokémon Go“: donde puede capturar diferentes tipos de ellos en su teléfono, representandolos como si fueran parte del juego en tiempo real. Otro ejemplo de esto puede ser de Amazon e IKEA, donde te da la opción de ver cómo se ve el producto que te gustaría comprar desde tu perspectiva en tu dispositivo móvil. La diferencia entre los dos es asombrosa, pero se puede describir fácilmente por sus nombres.

Desde el crecimiento de la tecnología, hemos logrado incorporar muchas posibilidades y crear entornos que están fuera de este mundo. La primera realidad aumentada creada se hizo a partir de Google en 2012, lo que hizo que muchas personas se interesen por su producto. Las gafas de Google se convirtieron en un gran éxito de la empresa, ya que muchos otros decidieron implementar el mismo concepto y convertirlo en lo que tenemos ahora: VR (Realidad Virtual).

La realidad aumentada tiene sus propias características, tales como:

  • Es unas de las tecnologías que propone dar los elementos del mundo real a través de lo virtual.
  • Se puede interactuar a través del tiempo real.
  • Toda acción que el usuario hace puede dar consecuencias directas a través de la realidad que se visualiza a través de la recreación virtual.
  • Toda visualización está compuesta de elementos 3D, de una forma en que se adquiere cualquier tipo de capacidad o proporción físicas del entorno.
  • También se le puede relacionar con el contexto de la información en el cual aparece en el dispositivo en nuestros ojos.

Adjunto a esto, la realidad aumentada y virtual se lleva a través de diferentes técnicas para visualizar estos conceptos mencionados: Smartphones, tabletas, y gafas de realidad aumentada. Esta tecnología tiene sus propios beneficios de una gran cantidad como de aprendizaje, comercio, salud, turismo, entre otros. Además, también se le ofrece una experiencia inmersiva al usuario en tener acceso al mundo virtual con su información optimizada. Pero de todo esto, la realidad aumentada y virtual tiene sus desventajas al igual de la capacidad de profesionales requeridos en la materia para poder desarrollar estas aplicaciones en la tecnología. Con esto, puede tener efectos secundarios si se usa por un tiempo prolongado, como dolor de cabeza, mareos, dolor y muchos más; por lo que se recomienda utilizar las gafas de realidad virtual u otro objeto utilizado durante un breve período de tiempo.

Privacy and Security

Before I discuss the aspects of privacy and security, I have watched a few of the videos and articles provided from my college professor regarding this topic. In this case, it was interesting to watch and understand how the internet can be a fearful place- whether anyone is tracking your IP or your history. Some may say that it’s not real, but how would you know exactly if anyone is currently stalking you at this moment? Even worse, looking through all of your private information and see through your webcam. After all, this had made me disactivate my ad personalization through google settings.

If you plan on disactivating your google activity, I suggest turning off these 3 options that google gives you.

Upon downloading the google extension “Disconnect“, I had visited 2 of the websites I frequently use on a daily basis to see how many connections google has on each and one of them.

Twitter

Currently, Twitter has 0 connections so far… But 2 google accounts are connected in it. Let’s check the other website that I chose and compare it with it.

Twitch.tv

In here, I picked Twitch.tv and saw how many connections there is and requests. Very interesting to see, but not very surprised since many people tend to use this website to see their favorite streamers and companies who promote them as well.

It’s very problematic when it comes to people checking your personal data on the internet, as said mention of your private information that you are giving as well. One of the videos I have watched, clearly explained about the violations that happens within your account if you do not protect yourself well. They can easily steal your identity within steps, including scam. It showed that a camera within the streets could identify your face recognition, that gave away every information such as where you live, account information and many more. In the past, I have always been self aware of the people who can see through me within my phone or computer- which is nerve wrecking honestly. After this, I had decided to cover up all of my cameras from any device that I have, knowing full aware of how many things can happen to me if I don’t get to protect all of my valuable information stored.

The article itself made me a bit shocked, seeing how dangerous it is on how people can stalk you… It’s one of the reasons why I downloaded “Disconnect” to help me visualize how many add-ons or cookies can be seen within a website, including a personal VPN tha5t I have installed on my PC. Many predators online aren’t gullible, such as the people running the deep web… in which it’s not ideal to search what it is. Young adults and teenagers are mostly targeted, and we need to keep our eyes opened. We all have to analyze and comprehend what dangers lies ahead within the internet, as many people are ignorant to even try to protect themselves from cyber attacks. In my opinion, it is best to read what you can about the safety of the internet and what you can do to prevent any malicious attacks that could happen any time in your electronic devices.

La Web y Yo; My perspective on it and how it influences others.

The internet is filled with many useful resources that can help us understand certain meanings such as social media outlets, news sources, and many more. It has changed around our society, such as depending on it, or live without it. The impact within this gave the freedom of speech for everyone, as they give their certain opinions that can change someone’s perspective of their discussion or argument online. The web can also give job opportunities upon research or buying certain brands that can ensure the customers into buying their products from online advertisements.

A brief example of this (video down below) shows on how to make your own marketing in a social media such as Instagram.

Most of social media surrounds us their form of entertainment, that lets us view and understand how much power it can influence us in our newly reformed society. Given upon circumstances, the web can be reliable as such as grocery shopping being delivered, ordering furniture, and many more. It can be part of a positive aspect into it, as people around the world keep depending on it in their lifestyles. You can also depend on different types of marketing companies such as Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, eBay, and many more.

But not everything can be given to others, as the web can also be a dangerous place in which predators keep an eye on your activity or stalkers. That is why, it is important to know the safety rules of the internet before you entitle yourself in being a part of the web. One must always keep an eye out on shady activity and have a conscious of what you post online. Everything stays permanent on the web, which is why you must always be careful of what you share to other people.

Depending on how much I am on the Web, I would say at least 1-2 hours or more. Some of the web pages that I frequently use is Twitter, Twitch or YouTube, as it entertains me while I indulge myself into drawing on my sketchbooks. Most of my time I spend my time in drawing on my sketchbooks while looking for more inspirations outside.

I can live without the internet because I do not find social media of much importance because of how time consuming it can be at times. But when I stumble across different platforms, I usually enjoy seeing photos or videos of any kind around these platforms. Most of the time I would converse with my friends and hang out with them whenever I have the chance to, in which I am grateful to find these types of relationships online.

These types of videos I find on Instagram are enjoyable, mostly because I like to explore different kind of posts such as cats. I do not spend much time on Instagram compared to Twitter, in which I use a lot in my spare time.

Such as these I find very mesmerizing because it is unusual to see these types of video on other places. But around in Twitter, sometimes I enjoy conversations with different people to share my own opinions around the world.

In my opinion, regardless of the pros and cons around the usage of the internet and perspective, I could say that we still do not know what technology could make a drastic change as the web did many years ago. We are still a long way to discovering new ideas, places, marketing as such, as the future is still around the corner.

To conclude this, I am grateful to be able to explain how the web works, provided with the guidance of my college professor Antonio Vantaggiato for my INF 103 class.
